These words by opera singer Tania Kross were an inspiration for more than a hundred young participants of the Youth Power Lunch in the Renaissance Hotel on July 15. The Youth Power Lunch is a gift by some fifteen sponsors to students with the best results and students who are an example for others. Master of Ceremonie was Crisen Schorea.

Ruud Thuis, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said Kross was a shining example that dreams can come through by working hard and perseverance. Janella Mook also sets a good example. This single mom received the second cheque of the Curacao Beverage Bottling Company, handed out by Myrthe Verhulst.

Registering for the 16th edition of the Study and Career Fair is already possible. Participants who register early get a discount.

 

For many years now the Kieskeurig, which once started as a column in the local news paper Amigoe, has been a valuable addition to the Study and Career Fair. The Magazine is issued to students in all local secondary schools in the months leading up to the fair. It is filled with useful information about participating colleges and universities, and features interesting topics that appeal to the youth, such as experiences of other local students studying abroad, tips about the studies, living on your own and many other aspects of student life.

 

Study and Career Fair pfarticipants can advertise in Kieskeurig or publish other copy. The advertisement form has all information about the possibilities and prices.

The Study and Career Fair 2009 has several additional activities.

 

This fundraising lunch took place for the first time in 2008 as a gift to the youngsters, the ones for whom we started doing this in the first place. From each secondary school, the top graduates and honor students are selected to participate. In total 100 top graduates and 50 honor students will be invited. They will have lunch and exchange thoughts with representatives of successful local companies and role models such as Tania Kross, born and raised in Curaçao, now a professional opera singer in Europe. There will also be a keynote speaker who, with a personal success story, will attempt to inspire the youngsters to work hard and realize their ambitions.

 

These days, kids are confronted at a very young age with choices that will influence the rest of their lives and careers. Therefore, we have decided, after fifteen years of successful information service at the two-day fair, to expand our services and take the information and career counseling into the schools. Through two pilots, we will make a start this year with a more direct support of the student counselors at the schools. On at least two occasions outside of the regular two-day fair, we will visit the students at the school to provide them with our information and expert advice.
